President Bush thanks 'American Idol' viewers
WHITE HOUSE (AP) - He's no Sanjaya, but President Bush has made an appearance on "American Idol."
The president and first lady were on Fox's top-rated program Tuesday night. They thanked viewers for helping to raise $70 million to fight extreme poverty among children in the US and Africa.
Bush says the viewers who contributed during the "Idol Gives Back" charity special "have shown the good heart of America."
Bush ended the appearance on a light note. He asked the first lady if he should sing. Laura Bush replied, "I don't know darling, they've already seen you dance."
The quip referred to the president's enthusiastic dancing with a West African troupe last week. The video clip was shown repeatedly on cable news and late night talk shows.
